Rationale
The article I wrote above follows my newspapers' profile because it has colors which attract the audience's attention, it uses formatted text to engage readers, it includes multiple pictures with captions, because along with the title of the article, that is usually the first thing readers get to read. I have used multiple bias by spin techniques here too, for instance, I have used "Cherry Picking". Cherry Picking is pointing to individual cases that supports a particular opinion while ignoring significant related cases that may contradict that opinion, for example, in the article I wrote about two students in OFS and I quoted what they said, ignoring the other thousands of students in that same school, which may have had different opinions on the issue which would have contrasted the first ones. As a matter of fact, the three quotations I have included all support uniforms, and I have completely left out any student which go against that. Cherry Picking makes the reader come to the conclusion that the paper wants as all the information included is for a certain issue, completely ignoring the opposition's side, as the information there is manipulated from the paper's perspective. Another bias by spin technique included is "Weasel Words", which happens when the paper writes something which is not definite, so that it appears to be truthful, even though the purpose is to mislead. An example from the article is when it says "This is a remark on which many other students agreed on...". Saying something like that is not definite as the reader will not know where that statistics comes from, or the precise number of students which actually agreed to the statement. When the reader reads something like that, he/she will not start to question it, but just take it as a fact, which is that the majority of students agreed, which will make him/her agree too. This leads to a third bias by spin technique which is called "Bandwagon Effect" which is used to persuade the audience to take a course of action because "everyone else" is doing it, and in our case, that action is maintaining uniforms. The formatting of the text also helps with following the newspapers' profile and it captures the reader's attention to certain parts of the text which agree to the newspaper's view on the topic. For example, I colored "for students" in green as green is the color for anything pro for a factor, and because the paper is aimed at students, "for students" is important as it engages the audience and makes them think that the paper is on their side. The captions for the images also are important as they are one of the first things the reader actually reads along with the title. In the images I only show how united uniforms make students feel and how secure towards bullying they are. This is also a form of cherry picking as I did not pick any image which went against my argument. The title and subtitle help to give a straight view of what the article is going to be about, and how the paper approaches this subject.
